Peter served as British Ambassador to Libya from June 2015 to January 2018. During that time he played a central role in supporting the UN’s efforts to negotiate and then implement the Libya Political Agreement which established a unified government in December 2015. He met and built relationships with all the key political, security and economic players in Libya and in the international community. He also managed the return of the British Embassy from Tunis to Tripoli.
Before Libya, Peter was British Ambassador to Jordan from 2011 to 2015 where he worked closely with Jordan’s political, security and economic institutions to support Jordan’s stability and prosperity. During his time as Ambassador, the Embassy funded Global Partners to support Jordan’s political reform by strengthening Parliament, fostering decentralisation, and enhancing the participation of women and youth. His close relationship with the Royal Court and key political players ensured that Global Partners’ programmes delivered effective results.
Earlier in his career he was High Commissioner to Cyprus, Deputy Ambassador to Greece and also had postings to Qatar, the EU in Brussels and Venezuela.
Since retiring, Peter has worked as a consultant and adviser. He is the Chairman of the Libya British Business Council, chair of The Human Edge (a mentoring company) and an adviser to the Stelios Foundation.
