Safeguarding & Whistleblowing

LAST UPDATE ON 9 April 2026

Safeguarding and Speaking Up

At The Governance Practice, we are committed to creating a safe, respectful and inclusive environment in all our work. This includes protecting our employees, associates, partners, and the people we work with from harm, abuse, exploitation and harassment.

We have a zero-tolerance approach to safeguarding breaches, including sexual exploitation, abuse and harassment (SEAH).

This page provides an overview of our approach. Our full Safeguarding and PSEAH policies (available on request) set out the detailed standards, procedures and safeguards that apply across our work, including in projects, partnerships and international travel.

Our Approach

We work to:

  • prevent harm through safe practices and a strong organisational culture
  • ensure concerns can be raised safely and confidentially
  • respond promptly and appropriately when issues arise

Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility, and these standards apply to all those working with or for us.

Raising a Concern

Anyone – staff, partners, or members of the public – can raise a concern or suspicion of misconduct.

You can do this via:

Concerns can be raised anonymously where appropriate.

Whistleblowing and Protection

We are committed to ensuring that anyone who raises a concern in good faith is:

  • taken seriously
  • treated fairly
  • protected from retaliation

You do not need proof to raise a concern – reasonable suspicion is enough.

What Happens Next

When a concern is raised, we will:

  • prioritise the safety of those involved
  • assess and respond promptly
  • investigate where appropriate
  • take action, including disciplinary measures if required
  • report to authorities where necessary

All concerns are handled sensitively and confidentially.
