Meg is a former UK Government Minister and Member of Parliament with more than forty years’ experience of political leadership and public service in the UK and internationally. She now advises politicians, governments and public institutions on leadership, democratic governance and institutional development.
She was the Labour MP for Sheffield Heeley from 2001 to 2015 and served as Minister for Women and Equality and as a Minister in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. Before entering Parliament, she spent twenty years in local government, latterly as Assistant Director of Children’s Services, and served as a Nottingham City Councillor, where she was Deputy Chair of the Planning Committee and Chair of the Labour Group.
Since leaving Parliament, Meg has worked internationally with governments, political parties and parliaments to strengthen democratic institutions and support women’s political leadership and participation. She has also held senior governance roles, including Pro-Chancellor and Interim Chair of the Board of Governors at Sheffield Hallam University.
Meg is a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute and holds an MA, BA (Hons) and Diploma in Management Studies.
